This Edison paper examines the performance and cost advantages of an IBM PowerLinux 7R2 server with PowerVM and SUSE Linux vs. an HP DL380 server with VMware and SUSE Linux. Performance testing details using an open source transaction workload are covered which show the PowerLinux 7R2 System with (8) cores exceeds the performance of the HP DL380 (16) core system and deliver a 46% lower cost.
